The Taste I recall the taste of her skin on my lips It was dirty Just from that I could tell It had been a long time since She had showered or bathed I was young though, On the cusp of boy and manhood Driven by the inner force That impels all men and creatures She was eager, sharing herself Free and kind Her smiles and warmth As an old man I now wonder What her life at home had been like How she had worked or hungered What abuses she may have endured We were mountain folk then Not everyone had electricity Or running water In that land in those times Her unclean laundry was nowhere near her heart Beyond us the fates led us apart I hope she is doing well and thriving Wherever she is now ©2020 Chad Aaron Long, Lost in the Land of the Dreaming |

My Everyday Waking Thoughts
I want to go to Mars I want to raft the Grand Canyon I don’t want to get out of bed Or take a shower I want to drink endless cocktails But always be classy I want scores of beautiful women While I maintain fidelity I just want to be left alone I wish I were righteous Wish I was a cowboy Someone please invent self washing dishes Or paper plates that throw themselves away I don’t feel like taking my pills today I just want to be an astronaut, alright? ©2023 Chad Aaron Long, Shadows from a Nearby Room |
