The Benefits of Hawaii Writers Guild Student Membership
1. Internet presence on the Hawaii Writers Guild website with a minimum of a photograph and brief biography on our Authors Page, plus a full Author’s Personal Page, displaying longer biographical information, photos, covers of your published works, other writings and pictures relating to your writing and links to sales outlets for all your published works.
2. Access to Writing Support Group meetings, where you can “try out” your writings and exchange feedback and tips about your craft with those of fellow writers in a safe, nurturing and productive environment for the free exchange of ideas about writing, publishing, and marketing. Members are encouraged to share their expertise with others.
3. Access to Participation in Public Reading Events, conducted in libraries, theaters, bookstores, coffee shops or other public venues, where writers read excerpts of their published or unpublished work to an audience of other interested writers and supporters. These public readings are often recorded and reported on our website as well as Facebook and Twitter.
4. Participation in various book publicity events, fairs, festivals, and other commercial activities. Note, however, that direct sales of books at such events cannot be conducted by Hawaii Writers Guild members as that would jeopardize our status as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit status.
5. Inclusion of your preferred email address in the Hawaii Writers Guild Google Group for the receipt of announcements of upcoming writing events and the promotion of writing ideas and access to the Hawaii Writers Guild Facebook page where you can post announcements about your work and achievements.
6. Hawaii Writers Guild ballpoint pen. Last, and perhaps possibly least, although members seem to love it: Ownership of your own high-quality, smooth-writing, blue Hawaii Writers Guild ballpoint pen, particularly useful for those critical proofreading and editing tasks and indispensable for book signings and endorsing royalty checks!
7. Upcoming Benefits: The Guild has ongoing plans to organize and conduct writing workshops and panel discussions covering aspects of writing, editing, publishing and self-publishing, and blogging. Plans are also being formulated to compile an informative, up-to-date directory of writing and publishing resources.
