Gone For Good This Time

Empty drawers again Clothes gone from the closet once more. The hot fall winds seem to blow the summer memories out to sea. Think he's gone for good this time? The summer camp syndrome: "Love 'em & leave 'em" in Camp Run-a-Muck for the wild and wayward. But "leave 'em alone and they'll come home with tails tucked 'tween their legs." Think he's gone for good this time? Candlelight dinners And morning coffee for two Replaced by fluorescents and freeze-dried granules. Boxes fill the closet floor The grocery bill is at least a third. Think he's gone for good this time? Winter's approaching along with less sunlight and damp dreary weather. But there's peace in the quiet dark No ongoing arguments No broken promises (or broken dishes either) And the kids haven't cried in days. Think he's gone for good this time. |
