Missin' You Tried sellin’ my soul for a nickel today But the devil didn’t have spare change So, I sat at a bar drinking whiskey straight up Talkin’ about you and my pain. I don’t need to hear any sad songs Playin’ on this ol’ juke box. ‘Cause I’m sad enough without you here Just wishin’ we could sit and talk. Maybe my soul is already owned By the love I have for you. If that’s the case, it’s yours to keep Maybe I own yours too So why does God let me suffer so Just for lovin’ you? Doesn’t He know how damn hard it is To spend my life missin’ you? Tried sellin’ my soul for a nickel today, But the devil didn’t have spare change. So, I sat at a bar drinkin’ whiskey straight up Talkin’ about you and my pain Yea, just sat at a bar, drinkin’ all day And wishin’ I could pray. ################################## Always, Never The winds were calm My agitated mind raced I looked for your face in The masked crowd. The hot, summer air Was heavy with moisture Hung like a thick, wool coat. I knew you weren’t there. I listen for your silky voice On the still air that carries the notes Isolating each conversation Waiting for your familiar tone Never to be, of course. Memories of you swirl In my consciousness Is that your perfume in the air? Suddenly the winds increase And just as quickly My mind leaves the thought of you As the masked crowd blends into a blur. I crave calm winds Memories cling like smoke Evaporate in the morning dew Like every dream I have of you Between sea and sky Wavering on a whirlwind of loss I catch my breath As your essence fills the sails at sea. |
